Q: How would you explain the Barrett “community” to a prospective student? The Barrett community is a unique experience because you have students of various areas of study with numerous experiences and backgrounds living together. Each student has his or her own major and course of study but students are brought together through classes like The Human Event and interact together to create a common experience, aided by the work of the amazing professors. It is the ultimate environment for meeting people that are inspired by (continue reading…)

Q: Where are you originally from? Phoenix, Arizona
Q: Why did you decide to attend Arizona State University/Barrett? ASU is close to my family, which is very important to me and I was given the National Hispanic Merit Scholar which ended up paying for my college education (which we couldn’t previously afford). Also, my father is an alumnus (English major) of ASU

Q: What is your major? Biology/Bio & Society
Q: Where are you originally from? I am a 5th generation Arizona native
Q: Why did you decide to attend Arizona State University/Barrett? Arizona State University was my first choice for the completion of my undergraduate degree. ASU not only has an exemplary nation-wide reputation for academic excellence in higher education, but it also has top-rated scientific research opportunities. Since my interest is in biomedical research, I knew I would receive an excellent education as well as a specialized hands-on experience at ASU.
Choosing to become a Barrett Honors student has been a very meaningful and beneficial decision. My affiliation with Barrett Honors College secured an internship that was perfectly on-target with my academic goals when I had no prior research experience. From this two year opportunity, I’ve been able to work individually with Dr. Christine Roberts who has taken my interest in biomedical research to an exciting new level; and under her direction, I have been able to complete an honors thesis project, thesis defense and manuscript in May 2008. The internship experience and Barrett affiliation has also opened the door to graduate school, and I will begin my Master’s Degree program in Biology at ASU in the fall 2008. (continue reading…)

Q: Where are you originally from? Gilbert, Arizona
Q: What organizations are you involved in at ASU and/or Barrett? Do you hold any leadership positions? COAR (Community Outreach and Advocacy for Refugees) has been one of the most rewarding organizations—working with a Burmese refugee family was a really, really awesome (and challenging) experience. Q: Why did you decide to attend Arizona State University/Barrett? ASU and especially the Barrett Honors College had a lot to offer me. First of all, I could attend the largest university in the nation and receive a degree that is both recognized and accredited. Secondly, I would be able to attend the premier honors college in the country and receive the attention an honors college qualified student should receive from their institute. The attention I received from the college during the recruitment process was incredible but was nothing compared to the help, opportunities, and praise I receive from Barrett now. ASU and Barrett made a great overall first impression and I was hooked from the beginning. Finally, I was able to live in the Barrett residential halls for two years. This living and learning community is an excellent place to live for the friends you meet and the real sense of community.
Q: How would you explain the Barrett community? Being an Honors Devils Ambassador has given me many opportunities to answer this question. This is how I would describe us, the Barrett community: We are a group of dedicated, intelligent, driven and inspired students who strive to fill out minds with the most intellectual knowledge possible during a four year college education. We wish to better ourselves by understanding others. We will always be the first to ask “why?” We are not afraid to express our opinions and are always ready for a challenge. We are open to new ideas but maintain our moral footings. We live and learn together in a tight knit community. We recognize each other outside the boundaries of the Honors College campus, but blend into the crowd with everyone else. Some of us like to study, some like to go out at night, some like a good book, and some like an afternoon of video games. Without a doubt there is a place for every hard working student in the Honors College. (continue reading…)

Q: What is your major? Microbiology with a minor in Spanish
Q: Where are you originally from? Springfield, IL
Q: Why did you decide to attend Arizona State University/Barrett? I was impressed with the broad range of opportunities ASU, Barrett and Phoenix have to offer. The combination of these three gives an individual student unbelievable advantages when it comes to finding a job, an internship, a passion and a home away from home.
Q: How would you explain the Barrett community? The small size of the Barrett residences meant that I started seeing familiar faces the second day of school. Living with people who share your classes and your goals makes finding lifelong friends as easy as walking down your hall. (continue reading…)
