Fall Welcome 2019

WELCOME CLASS OF 2023!

During the week leading up to Thursday, August 22 - the first day of fall classes – there are numerous events designed to support your transition to the university and honors college communities, along with dozens of fun activities and long-standing ASU traditions to check out!  To review a calendar of events occurring all across the university, visit https://eoss.asu.edu/welcome.  

Specific programs for Barrett students can be found in the tabs below, broken out by campus.  

  • Friday, August 16
    Priority Move-In
    Taylor Place
    *Time slots are released by housing mid-June
    Priority move-in for Barrett Downtown students begins! Sparky’s Welcome Team, Barrett staff, and student leaders will be on hand to assist you. University Housing will assign you a move-in time slot. This information, along with all other details pertinent to housing, will be communicated via an e-mailed University Housing e-Packet.

 

  • Friday, August 16
    B-town Fall Welcome
    ASU Downtown
  • Great Hall, Beus Law Center
  • 4:00-6:00pm
  • New and returning Barrett Downtown students and their families are invited to attend this exclusive event hosted by the Associate Dean. Refreshments will be served. New students will meet their peer mentoring group and families will have the opportunity to connect with staff and faculty to find out ways to support their students.

 

  • Saturday, August 24th - Sunday, August 25th
    Camp B-Town
    Prescott, AZ
    First-year Barrett Downtown students are expected to participate in this unique experience. Students will depart on buses to Mangus Mountain in Prescott, AZ the morning of Saturday, August 24th and will return to the ASU Downtown Campus by 5pm on Sunday, August 25th. Join your Barrett Downtown student leaders and staff for a fun-filled weekend. Transportation and meals will be provided

Residence Hall Move-In

Thursday, Aug. 15:  Students attending the Barrett Poly retreat will check in to their rooms from 3-5 pm.  Please plan on attending a mandatory meeting in Century Hall at 8 pm.  (If you are an out-of-state student attending Session 9 of Fulton E2 camp prior to attending the Barrett retreat, you will move in on August 11.)  For questions regarding move in, please email JBrady@asu.edu.

Saturday, Aug 17:  If you have a conflict and cannot attend the Barrett retreat, you will move into your space on Saturday, August 17/

 

Friday, August 16 - Sunday, August 18

Barrett Polytechnic Retreat

Payson, Arizona

The Barrett students at Polytechnic will attend a weekend retreat in Payson, AZ.   This will be a fun opportunity to meet fellow honors students at Polytechnic, to learn about Barrett resources and opportunities, and to relax a bit before classes begin.   All new Barrett Polytechnic freshmen attend the retreat.    For questions regarding the Barrett Poly Retreat, please email Brady.Hamilton@asu.edu.

Barrett Family Reception

Incoming parents and families are invited to attend our Barrett Family Reception, which is an opportunity to interact with Barrett leadership, staff, and faculty in an informal atmosphere.  Families attending the reception are asked to introduce themselves to our new Associate Dean at Polytechnic, Dr. Thomas Sugar.  For questions regarding the Barrett Family Reception, email BarrettParents@asu.edu.

Program: 11:00 - 12:00 pm
New Barrett students attend this signature Barrett event on the Tempe campus.   The deans, faculty fellows, staff, and current students will address many topics about the honors experience in what will be the first activity that brings together the entire class of 2023.  For questions regarding student transportation from the Poly campus, please email JBrady@asu.edu

Be sure to attend the activities hosted by the college of your academic major, and the All ASU Sun Devil Welcome at Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe.

 

Thursday, August 22
First day of classes

Updates to the Barrett calendar will be posted to http://barretthonors.asu.edu.   Click the tab for Polytechnic campus events.  Be sure to also check the Fall Welcome Schedule for all of the campus-wide events and activities on the Polytechnic campus! 

Move in for the Barrett Residential Community on the ASU Tempe campus is scheduled for Saturday, August 17th and Sunday, August 18th! Depending on building and floor, each student will receive a specific day and move-in window. This information, along with all other details pertinent to housing (e.g. where to check-in, what to bring, what not to bring, etc.) will be communicated in early July via an e-mailed University Housing e-Packet.

While students are taking part in the Barrett Student Org Fair, we invite incoming parents and families to attend our Barrett Family Reception. This event offers families to the opportunity to interact with Barrett leadership, staff, and faculty in an informal atmosphere. Representatives from numerous departments such Advising, the Office of National Scholarship Advisement, Residential Life, and others will be in attendance. Light refreshments will be provided. August 17th – Freshmen Move In & Family Reception. Barrett students and their families are invited to attend a Family Reception from 3 to 4 pm in Sands KIVA.  Interact with staff, faculty, and enjoy a sweet treat. 

August 13th - Barrett Family Reception in the Memorial Union, Arizona Ballroom from 6:00 - 7:00 pm. 

August 20th – Upper Division Students Move In & Culture Fest. All students are invited to attend Culture Fest in the evening at Tempe.  For more information about Culture Fest, please refer to   https://eoss.asu.edu/welcome

August 21st – Freshmen/Mentor Experience. Meet the Barrett Mentors and learn more about the Barrett West community. 8 am to 4:30 pm. La Sala Ballrooms. Registration is required and will begin in July.

August 24th – Paint the A in the morning and attend Opening Night in the evening!  Opening Night is required for all Barrett West students.  The evening includes academic breakout sessions, general assembly, and a social mixer.

August 29th – West Fest. Students will be able to interact with student organizations at ASU West and get involved on campus.  11 am to 2 pm on Fletcher Lawn.
