November 4, 2019

In 2017 and 2019, Barrett Honors College students participating in honors study abroad in Australia met and worked with environmentalist John Rumney, whose conservation efforts focus on the Great Barrier Reef.

Rumney founded Eye to Eye Marine Encounters to foster research, eco-tourism and understanding of undersea life and ecology. Barrett students worked closely with Rumney and Eye to Eye Marine Encounters when they learned about coral bleaching and the current state of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

For his efforts to protect and preserve Australia’s natural wonders, Rumney has won the 2019 Australian Geographic Lifetime of Conservation Award. Barrett Honors College is proud to have Rumney as a friend and educator and we congratulate him on this award.
