Hurricane Relief

The high winds, rain and flooding that accompanied Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma, and Hurricane Maria may have subsided, but the need for assistance among people who were affected remains and grows. The Barrett Honors College family is committed to doing what it can to help. As part of our ongoing Barrett Serves initiative, we are holding a drive to collect items that are needed by those who have been displaced by the hurricanes and whose belongings were lost or damaged.  

  • Donation drive and thank you letters: October 1 – 31
  • Making fleece blankets: October 19th 5:00 – 6:30 pm, see photos of this event

Boxes will be placed around the Barrett Tempe, Polytechnic, Downtown, and West campuses to collect these items.  We will also have boxes available at Family Weekend and Homecoming. 

For individuals (only new clothing):

  • adult and baby diapers
  • baby bottles and formula
  • baby wipes
  • bathroom tissue
  • batteries
  • blankets
  • coloring books
  • duct tape
  • feminine hygiene products
  • first aid supplies
  • flashlights
  • garbage bags
  • gloves
  • hand sanitizers
  • laundry sanitizer
  • medical grade face masks
  • non-perishable food
  • nylon rope
  • paper towels
  • puzzles
  • socks | all sizes
  • sponges
  • sunscreen
  • tarps
  • toiletries
  • towels
  • toys
  • undergarments | all sizes

For animals:

  • Peanut Butter and Kong Easy Treat
  • Sheets (can be used)
  • Bath & Beach Towels (can be used)
  • Aluminum Food Bowls
  • Styrofoam Bowls
  • Dog & Cat Food (meat as 1st ingredient)
  • Wet Canned Cat Food
  • Aluminum Baking Pans for litter boxes
  • Cleaning Supplies: trash bags, bleach, paper towels, dog poop bags, Clorox wipes, sponges,
  • Leashes (all size- flat) 

Donated items will be sent to organizations that are providing hurricane-related assistance in affected areas. Along with our drive for hurricane relief items, we are encouraging folks to write letters to the first responders who have worked diligently to assist hurricane survivors. A letter drop box will be available for this purpose at the Barrett front desk at each campus. If you would like to give directly to an organization here are a few places:
