HON 394: Societies in Movement

According to Raúl Zibechi, societies in movement have adopted forms of communitarian relations and experimental social formations to challenge the neoliberal and neocolonial dimensions of late capitalism. Emphasizing emancipatory knowledge production, art, music, culture, and storytelling, this course will examine a variety of decolonial and anti-capitalist strategies of survival and resistance. Over the course of the semester, we will explore a range of topics, including borders and borderlands, notions of place and displacement, home and family, community regeneration, Zapatismo and comunalidad.
