We are looking for interns who love working with kids (ages 8 to 14) and are passionate about creating healthy communities. Working in small teams, interns deliver an interactive afterschool curriculum through food demonstrations and embodied learning lessons and activities and provide 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity to promote healthy behaviors in youths. Interns also actively collect data for the research study pertaining to self-esteem, self-efficacy, health literacy, and program assessment throughout the course of the program.
Interns are responsible for delivering program material and designing physical activity for the day. Interns are also responsible for integrity and quality control of all data collection for the research aspect of the program. These interns must participate in 60 minutes of physical activity.
Personal transportation is ideal and preferred for this internship but not required. Interns are required to travel/carpool twice a week to their assigned library/community center location and also attend weekly class held on the Downtown campus. Program sites are located throughout the city of Phoenix.
Qualified candidates should be outgoing, critical thinkers, physically active, and enthusiastic about mentoring incredible kids! Ideal candidates need basic nutrition knowledge and experience working with middle schoolers. Interns must also be friendly and energetic, team-oriented, be flexible and have patience, and be able to think on their toes. Interns will gain experience in translating evidence-based knowledge to kids in a fun and memorable way, learn basic research methods and apply them in a real-life experience, and develop leadership and team building skills.
