Internship Description: 

Dr. Rosemarie Dombrowski, Poet Laureate of Phoenix, Barrett affiliate, and co-founder of Write On, Downtown: A Journal of Phoenix Writing & Art, is offering a 3-credit internship in which students serve as the editors/curators of the forthcoming issue of Write On, Downtown.

Primary functions of the editorial interns include
• developing & implementing marketing/publicity strategies
• developing goals related to content and audience diversity
• pitching & writing community artist profiles
• constructing genre-specific criteria by which to evaluate submissions
• reading and ranking submissions
• selecting pieces (both written and visual) for inclusion in the journal
• copy editing pieces
• arranging final selections for publication (layout editing)
• collaborative writing of intro and other front/back matter
• working with design students (selecting design elements, images, and cover art)
• hosting the launch celebration at Changing Hands Bookstore

Desired Qualifications: 

A love of creative or journalistic writing, a record of above average performance in writing-intensive courses, a passion for building community and curating a journal that showcases the writerly and visual talent of our city. Barrett students of all majors are welcome.



Preferred Majors: 
English, Journalism, Creative Writing, Secondary Education, and others (see desired qualifications above).
Hours Per Week: 
3 in class; 1-2 outside of class
Closing Date: 
January 1, 2020
