Fall 2017 FitPHX Energy Zones program
Mayo Clinic/ASU Obesity Solutions is looking for highly motivated and qualified undergraduate students for the Fall 2017 Fit PHX Energy Zones program- an innovative after-school program and community-based research study aimed at making Phoenix one of the healthiest cities in the nation. Interns gain hands-on experience running a community-based intervention study promoting healthy behavior change in middle-school aged youths. We are looking for interns who love working with kids (ages 8 to 14) and are passionate about creating healthy communities. Working in small teams, interns deliver an inter active after school curriculum through food demonstrations and embodied learning activities andprovide 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity to promote healthy behaviors in youths. Interns also actively collect data for the research study pertaining to measures of body composition, self-efficacy, health literacy, and program assessment, throughout the course ofthe program. Qualified candidates should be outgoing, critical thinkers, physically active, and enthusiastic about mentoring incredible kids! Ideal candidates need basic nutrition knowledge and experience working with middle schoolers. Interns must alsobe friendly and energetic, team-oriented, be flexible and have patience, and be able to think on their toes. Interns will gain experience in translating evidence-based knowledge to kids in a fun and memorable way, learn basic research methods and apply them in a real-life experience,and develop leadership and team building skills.

Program Interns: Responsible for delivering program material and designing physical activityfor the day. Assists Data Interns in data collection. These interns must participate in 60 minutesof physical activity.
Data Interns: Responsible for integrity and quality control of all data collection for the research aspect of the program. Assists Program Interns with program delivery. These interns must participate in 60 minutes of physical activity.
Academic Credit: 3 upper division units (10 hours per week) (ASB 484 Internship). Volunteer opportunities may be discussed.
Requirements: Personal transportation is ideal and preferred for this internship but not required. Interns are required to travel/carpool twice a week to their assigned library/community center location and also attend weekly class held on the ASU Tempe and/or Downtown campus. Program sites are located throughout the city of Phoenix. Availability: Fit PHX Energy Zones runs from August through December 2017. Class- TBD WHALL 144
Program Days- Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30 to 6 pm or 4 to 6:30 pm (dependent on site assignment (These times ARE absolute)
