Internships and career development

Enhance your college experience with internships and career development.

Internships

Students enrolled at Barrett, the Honors College have access to the Barrett Office of Internships and are encouraged to plan for experiential learning during their academic careers. Internships may be taken for honors credit and often lead to thesis topic ideas and professional connections in the field. Students receive an electronic Internship and Research Roundup Newsletter two times a month and each issue includes internship and research opportunities, as well as professional development articles and ASU Career Services programs and opportunity fairs.

Benefits of internships

Practical experience

Internships offer hands-on experience, allowing you to apply what you've learned in the classroom.

Developing new skills/academic credit

The work environment provides opportunities to learn new skills relevant to your field, including essential soft skills. Some internships may also offer academic credit to help you progress in your program.

Career exploration

Working in a specific industry while still in school allows you to explore different tasks and roles, helping you determine your preferences and the best career path for you.

Networking and job offers

Many internships provide access to mentors who can serve as references. Additionally, many companies use internships as a means to identify and recruit future employees.
