Pathway for AZ Transfer Honors (PATH)

Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University recognizes the outstanding opportunities provided to students who choose to participate in the Honors Program as part of their Arizona community college experience. As such, Barrett features an adjusted graduation requirement from 21 to 18 honors credits for transfer students who meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Satisfy the transfer student definition as set by the AZ Board of Regents: “a student who has attended one or more colleges/universities and has completed 12 or more transferable college or university credits post-high school graduation.”
  2. Meet all eligibility requirements for Barrett Upper Division or Barrett Online enrollment.
  3. Apply to Barrett and receive a positive admission decision for Barrett Upper Division or Barrett Online.
  4. Graduate from the Honors Program of an Arizona community college prior to Barrett enrollment.

Frequently asked questions

No - graduating with recognition based on your GPA (e.g. Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Cum Laude) is different from graduating from the Honors Program at your community college, which often (but not always) involves taking both a minimum number of classes with an honors designation and meeting a minimum GPA. However, graduating from your community college with special distinction based on your GPA should definitely be included on your Barrett application as an achievement!

Many motivated and high-achieving students participate in Phi Theta Kappa. Be sure to include this important involvement in your Barrett application, as it speaks to many of the qualities we highly value in our community. However, PTK participation is not the same thing as graduating from the Honors Program at your community college.

Via email and shortly after their admission to Barrett, transfer students are given the opportunity to provide one of the following:

  • An unofficial community college transcript showing Honors Program graduation
  • A copy of their community college Honors Program graduation certificate

If your community college does not articulate Honors Program graduation on your transcript nor provide an Honors Program certificate, Barrett is happy to instead accept an email from a representative of your community college Honors Program confirming graduation.

Within 5 - 7 business days of receiving verification of community college Honors Program graduation, the Barrett student record will be updated to reflect 18 instead of 21 credits required for graduation.

You would only need to have an Associate’s degree if your community college stipulates earning this degree as part of their Honors Program graduation requirements.
