Barrett Poly engagement
Barrett students at the Polytechnic campus are part of a vibrant and welcoming community. New first-year and upper division students are paired with a Barrett student mentor. Mentors provide guidance, encourage involvement in Barrett and ASU activities, and help ease the transition into university life.
At the beginning of the academic year, new students attend the Barrett Polytechnic Retreat in northern Arizona to meet mentors, faculty, and staff, learn about honors opportunities, and make lifelong friendships.
Colloquiants are tutors who assist first-year students with developing an effective thesis for The Human Event’s signature papers through one-on-one tutoring and at ThesisFest events. Colloquiants also help upper-division students with their work in their History of Ideas class. Furthermore, tutors can also assist individual students in applying for scholarships, internships, and other academic ventures. Tutors in the Colloquium earn honors credits to hone their writing and tutoring skills. The Colloquium strengthens Barrett’s intellectual community and fosters a positive learning environment.
