The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Merit scholarships at ASU – those based on an academic accomplishment like the popular New American University Scholarship program – do not require the submission of the FAFSA. Need-based financial assistance requires the completion and submission of a FAFSA. In instances where a scholarship or grant factors in both student merit and need, the FAFSA may be required. Students are strongly encouraged, even if they are unsure that need-based financial assistance will be available, to submit a FAFSA.

The 2025–26 FAFSA is expected to be available on December 1, 2024. The ASU priority filing date is January 15. Students hoping to be considered for Barrett scholarships must have their FAFSA on file by February 1.

How will I be notified?

Scholarship recipients will be notified of their awards via their ASU email by April 1. Please keep your email address up-to-date with the university through My ASU.
