The directions on this page only apply to admitted Barrett Honors College students who would be new first-year students at Arizona State University in the fall of 2025.
These instructions do not apply to:
- continuing Barrett students (rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors) who should contact their Honors Advisor to withdraw from the college.
- transfer students and continuing ASU students who have been admitted to Barrett for the fall, who should email barrettadmissions@asu.edu to cancel their honors college admission.
Please review the section below that best describes your situation.
I have decided not to attend ASU
Cancel your ASU admission: admission.asu.edu/undergrad/cancel-defer. No further action is required for Barrett, The Honors College.
I plan to attend ASU as a non-Barrett student
Complete this short form: asu.edu/go/honorsdeclineadmitted. It will then take 1 - 2 business days to process and an additional 1 - 2 business days for all university systems to reflect the change in honors college standing.
I wish to defer my admission to ASU and to Barrett
Deferred admission is for students who wish to begin their studies in a later semester than the one for which they were admitted. Common reasons for deferment include religious volunteer work, military service, and personal circumstances regarding unique health or financial situations.
Please note: students who defer their admission may not attend another 2- or 4-year college or university before they begin at ASU. These students have not deferred but instead declined their admission to enroll elsewhere and will have to re-apply to ASU and Barrett as transfer students.
Steps for deferment
- At least 30 days prior to the first day of class, request to defer your ASU admission at admission.asu.edu/undergrad/cancel-defer.
- Carefully review and complete all steps outlined by the university, which will include information about deferring scholarships, your final high school transcript, housing, and more.
- After your ASU deferment is approved, email barrettadmissions@asu.edu to defer your Barrett admission. In your email, be sure to confirm your ASU deferment has been processed and identify when you will be starting at the university (e.g. fall 2026).
Note: ASU and Barrett are unable to defer any private scholarships awarded by external groups or organizations. Contact the scholarship sponsor directly to discuss your change in circumstances and the impact on your award for future university enrollment.
